WYLD Sauna opened last November. It’s located on Prince’s Dock in Liverpool. According to staff, they had to close temporarily. The sauna gives a Nordic experience, allowing guests to relax and escape here downtown.

It’s the UK’s first floating sauna, where you can dive into Prince’s Dock to cool off. Thirty people can enjoy the sauna, which also features ice baths and outdoor showers.

People control the sauna’s temperature using a bucket and pail. They pour water on the sauna stones to make steam, called löyly. Too much water, however, caused the closure.

Eleven of fifteen heaters broke. The team is flying to Finland to get replacements and plans to install them by Friday.

Too much water damaged the heaters. Sauna stoves need controlled steam, as waterfalls rapidly cool the elements. This shortens the heater’s lifespan significantly.

Gentle, controlled pours are best to keep the sauna working well. WYLD Sauna will reopen on Saturday, February 15, and they will be wiser then.

Jon Miller owns the business and wants to help Liverpool’s swimmers. He also offers a new way to socialize, inspired by Norway’s floating saunas.
