Lidl aims to construct a store, townhouses and apartments on the old Good Companions pub site in Surrey.

The site sits on the Croydon and Surrey border. The boarded-up site is at Limpsfield Road’s corner with Tithe Pit Shaw Lane. The old pub got torn down more than ten years prior.
Lidl plans a supermarket with over 1,200sqm sales area. The store will have a bakery, toilets, and baby changing. Lidl claims the store will create forty new local jobs. This is a multi-million pound investment to fix the disused site.
The plan includes six three-bed townhouses. Seven two and three-bed apartments will sit atop the store. New homes get private gardens or terraces. Communal outdoor spaces are also in the plans.
Fifty-five car parking spaces are planned. This number includes accessible and parent-child spaces. A bus stop will stay on Limpsfield Road. This allows easy store access. A new access road beside existing businesses might be built. Detailed plans are not yet available.
Previous plans got denied due to traffic and safety issues. These plans were in 2012, 2013, and 2016. Lidl hopes to submit a new application to Croydon Council. Tandridge District Council will also give input. Lidl has not announced a consultation end date. The council does not know when to expect the update.
Lidl launched a public consultation. This aims to address any local concerns. They sent out leaflets with feedback forms. A website has launched. They held an in-person event as well. This helped local people learn more about the project.
