A local councillor just changed her political status. Kendra Evans left the Liberal Democrat group and will now serve as an independent councillor. She represents St Germain’s ward in Marske, and she announced this news on Facebook.

Evans was elected in May 2023 and used to be a nurse. Evans now works in the Civil Service, and her job requires political independence. She said there is no hidden reason for her change, and she is grateful for her time with the Lib Dems, who helped her get where she is now.

Karen King is now the only Lib Dem in Marske. Another councillor, Tristan Learoyd, left last year and is also an independent councillor currently, unaffiliated with any group.

Carole Morgan leads the Lib Dem group and said they are sad to see Evans leave. They wish her the best in her new role, and Evans and King will still work together, focusing on local issues in their ward.

The Lib Dems have nine councillors now, out of 59 total council members. The Labour party has the most councillors.
