Construction starts on 127 new homes in Leyburn after a seven-year delay, addressing housing needs.

Yorvik Homes started building this week. There will be 127 houses, and they are putting them on fields near town. Yorvik Homes said it’s a great area, and you can expect modern designs and beautiful views. They will start selling homes in spring.
The council approved different house types, including detached, semi-detached, and terraced homes. They also have 22 bungalows. They will sell 28 homes as discounted first homes, and another 10 homes will be for affordable rent.
The plans passed in February 2023. They moved the entrance a bit, making it farther from the depot. This was done to improve safety.
They are building public spaces too, and a path will connect the houses to Leyburn, connecting also to Thornborough Hall Gardens. Leyburn Town Council was happy, because we need housing.
Lots of people did object though, and over fifty people had concerns. People worried about flooding, parking, and school spaces. The path through the woods worried some.
Some feared new folks would use a private road called Woodburn Drive. Finally, Yorvik Homes will help out by giving Leyburn Primary School £363,693. £150,000 will improve bus routes.
