A man died after a flat fire in Lewisham. The incident occurred on Venner Road early last Tuesday.

Firefighters and ambulances arrived quickly. They found a man there, and he went to the hospital right away. Sadly, he passed away later.
The fire caused only minor damage. Fire engines came from several stations, including Beckenham and Forest Hill. The fire was over by 7:16 am.
Investigators are finding out what started the fire. MyLondon asked police for more details.
Separately, a shop in Coulsdon had a fire too. Flats were located above this shop. Firefighters want people to be careful with smoking now.
That fire probably started by accident, likely because someone didn’t put out smoking materials safely. Half the building’s roof suffered damage as a result. Three people managed to escape safely.
Smokers should always put out cigarettes completely, according to the London Fire Brigade. A fire can destroy a lot and could even cost your life. Their website has a Home Fire Safety Checker, where you can check your home for hidden dangers.
