Jurassic Discovery has a new exhibit: the Leon Garner Fossil Collection. Leon Garner loved fossils his whole life and passed away in 2024. The exhibit opened February 15th and is included with the dinosaur experience entry.

Leon loved fossils since he was a kid, exploring the Jurassic Coast with family. He also hunted shark teeth at Bracklesham Bay and ventured to Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. The exhibit showcases his journey, his finds and also explores the work of Mary Anning, a fossil pioneer.

Jenny Nunn, the director of Jurassic Discovery, is excited about the new collection. She believes it shows Leon’s amazing life and passion and hopes it inspires future fossil hunters.

Leon’s sister, along with Megan Rodgers, donated the collection after his death. Karenina Bennett feels Leon would be happy, as the collection reflects his dedication. Now, visitors can share his passion.

Leon wished for his collection to be in a museum and also wanted to donate microscopes to aid education. Jurassic Discovery accepted the entire collection, a fact that makes Karenina very happy.

The fossils will contribute to education by creating new classes for schools. Kids will have the opportunity to touch real fossils and explore the Jurassic Coast’s history, connecting to a grant aimed at improving local education.

The Leon Garner Fossil Collection is a permanent exhibit at Jurassic Discovery. It will certainly delight people of all ages.
