A 48 meter bridge section installed in Leicestershire for NEMMDR using a crane, easing traffic and boosting economy.

It’s part of a big road plan costing £115 million, called NEMMDR. It should ease traffic in Melton, boost the economy and housing. Work began in early 2023, and the road should open early next year.
This bridge crosses the Birmingham to Peterborough train line at Lag Lane. Four steel beams support it, each pair weighing about 150 tonnes. It is the fourth major structure for NEMMDR; last year, they built a bridge over the River Eye.
A council member said it’s great to see the bridge go in and that they are focused on the project. This brings them closer to opening NEMMDR, with the new route lessening city traffic. They want better air and more jobs, making it a key investment for Melton Mowbray.
A director congratulated the team, saying the bridge lift went well and that the MMDR project is a model for their business. She looks forward to completing the project and continuing to work with everyone.
Funding comes from several sources. The Government, the County Council, and the Leicester & Leicestershire LEP all contributed. Developers also provided funding.
