A controversial truck park in Leicestershire must shut down due to safety concerns after a failed planning appeal.

The truck park is near a pub and sits where the Stardust nightclub used to be. The park’s access from the pub’s car park caused concern. Some feared someone could get hurt near the park, while others thought trucks could crash on the nearby road.
The park opened when the pub was closed and had temporary permission to operate. It was supposed to close in June 2023. However, the owner appealed when denied permanent permission, but the appeal failed, so the park must close by March 6th.
The owner thanked those who supported the park. He met with a local councilor about a solution and they are working with national groups to solve the problem. He hopes to have good news soon.
The council welcomes the decision, as they fought against the truck park’s appeal. The council stated the truck park was dangerous because trucks used the same narrow entrance as the pub. They also mentioned illegal turns by trucks.
The Road Haulage Association wants a new truck stop. They urge local leaders to find a new location because the park’s temporary permission ended when the pub reopened. Without a better entrance, the park cannot stay open, and they want safe facilities for lorry drivers.
