Police introduce speed cameras to tackle dangerous car cruising events across Leicestershire, Rutland.

This month, many cars raced on the A453. It happened early one Sunday morning. Someone called police about 40 to 50 cars. Police got there, but the cars were gone.
Castle Donington has rules to stop these meets. People breaking rules face fines. These gatherings have been a problem for a while. They happened almost weekly in early 2024.
Councillors discussed new rules for the village. They learned meets had 10 to 100 cars. Spectators were about double that number. Police now have a new plan for car cruising. It covers the city, county, and Rutland area.
Police said they bought two new speed cameras. These cameras will target speeding and illegal racing. Developers paid for them through local planning money.
The new cameras are “Trucam2” models. The government approved these cameras. Each camera uses radar to check speed plus videos. They record offenses in high definition. Police do not need to stop cars right away.
Speeding at car meets causes many complaints. Dangerous driving there puts lives at risk. Police sent warning letters to drivers. They also took cars away. Police ask people to report offenses. This helps them take further action.
