Housing plan denied on a Leicestershire road because of traffic safety fears and how it fits the village.

The plan was near Coalville, in Coleorton. It was for land off Loughborough Road. The applicant wanted self-build homes and said family would live there.
Coleorton Parish Council had worries. They said the road had many small accidents. County highways teams shared traffic concerns, noting two slight accidents in five years.
The applicant disagreed with safety worries. He said the houses would add few cars. He also claimed the homes would help the village because his family would use local services.
Villagers disagreed about the village benefits. They said Coleorton lacks amenities. They felt the location wasn’t sustainable.
The council agreed with villagers and said it harmed green space protection. The plan did not fit existing buildings, although nearby land has commercial buildings that visually separate the site.
Houses to the east are narrow and close. The plan’s houses would be large and sit back from the road. Therefore, the council said it wouldn’t integrate.
The council said harm outweighed benefits. They stated no other factors mattered and the plan was rejected.
