A Leicester store seeks 24/7 alcohol sales, raising concerns about noise, crime, and public disturbance.

Right now, they sell alcohol from 9am to 8pm, while the shop is open from 7:30am to 9:30pm. The owner says people want the shop open late. He plans to sell through a hatch after midnight, located on the side of the building.
Some people don’t think it’s a good idea. Police, council staff, and local leaders have worries, including a council member who thinks it could make problems. It could turn the street into an “open-air nightclub,” and the area is a protected conservation area.
The council member worries about noise and disruption, and that crime could increase. The police share these concerns about safety. They think the shop would attract people who are already drunk because it’s close to pubs and bars.
People might buy more alcohol after leaving those other places. Shop staff couldn’t manage people drinking outside, near the seating on King Street. This seating, quite close to the store, could see increased noise and trouble.
The police also worry about the delivery service. Couriers would use bikes, mopeds, and cars, which could cause noise and bother the residents. The police also noted past issues at the shop.
The shop broke rules in August of last year by selling drinks with too much alcohol and staying open later than they should have. The police want the council to refuse the new license. Council members will decide next week, and they can approve, deny, or add rules.
