City center operation nets 21 more illegal e-bikes/scooters. 64 vehicles seized and scrapped to date.

This action follows their warning last month that they would seize such vehicles right away. The operation is called Op Pedalfast, and they increased it last month because illegal vehicle problems kept happening in the city. Yesterday, they seized 21 vehicles downtown.
The total vehicles seized are now 64. Police mentioned that the seized vehicles get scrapped. The mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, promised action to address problems in the city center, targeting reckless bike and e-scooter use.
He welcomes action against illegal e-bikes, saying speeding e-bikes impact city enjoyment. Privately owned e-scooters have limits and are okay only on private land, with consent.
E-bikes need to meet specific rules. Motors must be under 250 watts and activate only when you pedal. E-bikes also need details on display, including manufacturer data, battery info, and speed.
