A Leicester mom, Molly White, has a problem. She thinks mould in her home affects her kids. Her council house has mould. Molly noticed dampness when she got the keys last November.

The housing officer said someone would check it. But, nobody came. Black mould appeared in about three weeks and spread in the hallway and bedroom. She sleeps there with her youngest child.

Molly’s two kids, four and one, are constantly sick. Her older child, Logan, uses steroids to help his breathing. Valentino, the younger one, went to the hospital twice because he had trouble breathing.

Molly feels ignored by the council and says the kids got worse quickly. Logan’s doctor put him on steroids, and Valentino’s inhaler use increased. Valentino went to the hospital two times, and they only had three good days in three months.

She contacted Leicester City Council many times this year and they put her on a priority list. An inspection was planned for January 24, but it was cancelled because the inspector was sick. She still waits for a new date and told LeicestershireLive about this on February 4.

The council commented on February 6, stating they did a full inspection. The council planned work with Molly to remove the mould and repaint, using mould-resistant paint. This was set for February 26 or 27.

The council said they found mould in the hallway and think it’s from condensation, so they will fix it fast. A November inspection found no mould, but that inspection happened before she moved in.
