New traffic rules in Leicester will prohibit stopping on the A6, aiming to reduce traffic. Drivers risk a £70 fine.

Pay within 21 days, and it’s reduced to £35. The new rule should start in April. It affects all of Abbey Lane and St Margaret’s Way. This aims to stop illegal parking.
Parked cars cause traffic jams. Buses and taxis are exceptions to this rule. Crews will remove yellow lines and paint red route lines. Expect some road closures.
Abbey Lane junctions will close with Thurcaston, Corporation, and Beaumont Leys Roads. One outbound closure happens Sunday, March 9. Another is scheduled for Monday, March 17. Inbound closures occur Monday, March 10 and Sunday, March 23.
All closures are overnight, from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The council said they will post detour signs. Other work involves temporary lane closures during the same hours. You can still reach properties.
This is Leicester’s second red route. London Road got one in 2020. The red route improves past road work. Illegal stopping is a problem. The route will cut traffic and help everyone.
