Mughli is opening a city center location. They’ve been on Rusholme’s “Curry Mile” since 1991. The Arshad brothers own Mughli Charcoal Pit and said that it’s been a long time coming. They like the new space’s potential.

Mughli will open inside House of Social this summer, an all-new food hall on First Street. They will be one of five kitchens there. Mughli is a beloved Wilmslow Road institution.

“Uncle Peter” started the family-run restaurant. Now, his sons own the business, and they are excited about the new city center venture. Shaz Arshad, who runs Mughli and other spots, spoke about the move.

Mughli loves Manchester city center and are happy to bring their food there. The area has seen new businesses open, and many new apartments are also nearby, making it a good location. The location is near Deansgate Square and also close to Oxford Road station. They expect diverse customers at the food hall, and House of Social wants everyone to feel welcome.

House of Social will open near HOME theatre, showcasing independent kitchens. It’s near Oxford Road and Deansgate stations. Vita Group and Jake Atkinson lead the project; Atkinson worked at Mackie Mayor before.

The food hall is 12,000 sqft across two levels, where kitchens will operate from breakfast to evening. Arched windows border the space, which is below Vita Student apartments. This complex has 100 apartments and boasts another 576 bedrooms.

The new menu takes cues from the original Mughli, featuring favorites and pop-up hits. They aim to bring Indian Soul Food to the new spot. Expect grilled meats and home-style curries.

Mughli earned recognition as a top dining destination, having been called “One of Manchester’s best restaurants.” Last year, they were nominated at the Curry Awards. Shaz said the new location allows experimentation.

Past events let them have kitchen fun, less limited by “Curry Mile” expectations. The favorites will still be on the menu. Shaz sees this as “Mughli unchained,” and they think House of Social is a destination spot.

They are honored to cook with other independents. Food halls offer perfect social grazing, Shaz added, allowing them to break from convention. Expect Mughli’s flavors, but more expressive. Street food, grilled meats, and curries are expected, while Butter Chicken will be on the House of Social menu. Some dishes will be exclusive.

Jake brought House of Social to them last year, and construction has made true progress since then. Jake has worked on this for three years, having planned it since Mackie Mayor. The opening is getting close. The other food vendors are not announced yet, but expect pizzas and dumplings from “big names.” The space will hold about 400 people.

House of Social will open in Summer 2025 and will be open Tuesdays-Sundays. They open at 8 am and stay open late on weekends.
