A giant sinkhole opened in Godstone, Surrey, UK, causing road closures and evacuations after a water pipe burst.

The sinkhole is pretty big. Reports say it’s about 19 meters long and three meters wide. A broken water pipe likely caused it, and SES Water confirmed the burst pipe.
They’re working to fix the pipe quickly. UK Power Networks and emergency services are helping. Road users should avoid Godstone High Street though, and they put up a detour route.
SES Water will deliver bottled water to some people, especially those on their Priority Service list. You can check their website for updates or call 01737 720000 for emergencies.
Pictures show the pavement collapsed and part of the road outside a house caved in; a pool of water is visible. Emergency workers are figuring out the repairs.
A local resident said shops lack water, showing people need water supply information. Another person complained online hoping for water stations soon, as it’s needed for vulnerable people.
