Ryan Bentham, 31, died from liver disease after self-medicating with drugs. An inquest revealed the tragic details.

He was 31 years old, and lived in Heysham, having been born in Lancaster. A post-mortem found the cause of death was hepatic necrosis caused by cocaine, opiates, and paracetamol. The inquest, held on February 25 at Morecambe Town Hall, showed Ryan had been self-medicating.
The coroner, Chris Long, stated that Ryan died on August 4, 2024, at Royal Infirmary, Lancaster. He said Ryan was sick after using substances, and the cause was hepatic necrosis resulting from drug toxicity. Furthermore, the evidence showed self-medication.
Ryan’s sister, Stephanie, created a fundraiser to give him “the best send-off”. The GoFundMe page raised over £4,000. She described the family’s loss, noting Ryan left behind four children and a loving girlfriend. He was only 31, with a full life ahead.
Stephanie wanted to raise money for his funeral, stating that anything would help fulfill this wish. She called Ryan funny, loving, and caring, noting that so many people clearly loved him. She asked people to show him how much they cared.
