Lancashire Cricket and Live Nation face charges relating to health and safety issues. A wagon hit three people after a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at Emirates Old Trafford in June 2022.

That summer saw many concerts at the venue, with around 200,000 people attending shows by The Killers and Harry Styles as well. The wagon incident led to an investigation by Trafford Council into possible breaches.

The council charged both organizations with violating the 1974 law, which protects people’s health and safety. The charges allege they did not adequately protect the public and failed to prevent the accident.

Both groups deny these accusations. Lancashire Cricket and Live Nation pleaded not guilty and appeared in court on January 22nd. The trial is delayed due to court backups and will now happen in 2027.

The trial is expected to last ten days, scheduled for March 1, 2027. Trafford Council confirmed the prosecution, involving the incident at the concert at the Emirates Old Trafford ground.

Lancashire Cricket made a statement, asserting the club believes concerts are still safe. They say crowd safety isn’t involved and the incident occurred in a closed area, preventing further comment on the claims.

Live Nation also released a statement prioritizing attendee safety and well-being. Having pleaded not guilty to the charges, they also said they cannot comment further as the matter is currently in court.
