Large fire engulfed former Kingston Odeon cinema Sunday afternoon. Road closures remain. Cause is unknown.

A fire broke out in an old building. It used to be the Odeon cinema. This happened on Richmond Road around 2:30 PM Sunday.
The fire was pretty big. It took 150 firefighters to get it under control. Twenty-five fire engines went to the scene. The whole building was on fire.
Firefighters got it under control around 6 PM. They stayed to dampen down the building. Station Commander Will Thompson spoke about it. He noted road closures are still in place.
Avoid the area if you can, he advised. The fire made a lot of smoke. Locals should close their windows.
They used turntable ladders. These helped with water and observation. Commanders used the tools for better awareness and to help decide tactics.
The fire brigade got 33 calls about the fire. Crews came from several areas, including Kingston, Surbiton, and New Malden. Twickenham and Richmond crews also came. They don’t know what started the fire yet.
