A mom got arrested. She allegedly left her kids alone for years, and the children lived in terrible conditions. She is 34, but her name is secret to project the kids’ privacy. Her 15-year-old son and two daughters, ages 12 and 13, lived in a messy house in Michigan last Friday.

The landlord hadn’t seen their mom since December, and rent was overdue since October. Police checked on the kids. The kids told officers their mom left around 2020 or 2021, and they had been alone ever since then.

The house was awful, filled with waste, mold, and trash; some trash piles were four feet tall. Sadly, the children lacked hygiene knowledge and didn’t know how to flush toilets. They also had not been to school, so the abandonment deeply impacted them.

The girls hadn’t gone outside for years. They slept on pizza boxes, and the boy used a mattress on the floor. They mostly watched TV and played games. The sheriff found the living situation appalling and said it was intolerable even “for an animal.”

The sheriff said the situation was unacceptable because these kids lacked motherly care and missed years of school. He stressed the abuse’s serious effects, and it is crucial that people recognize how deeply troubling the neglect was.

The kids ate food left on the porch, brought by their mom or a stranger. With matted hair, long toenails, and a struggle to walk normally, the mother was found elsewhere and arrested.

Reportedly, their dad was not involved. Now, the kids live with a relative. The mom is in Oakland County Jail, and the sheriff wants her prosecuted to face her actions’ consequences.
