A driver high on cocaine hit a 10 year old in Gillingham. He’s now jailed for nearly four years after the 2022 incident.

The ten-year-old boy crossed Woodlands Road. A helicopter took him to the hospital, where he suffered severe head injuries. Police arrested Butt at the scene.
Blood tests showed cocaine and cannabis in Butt’s system. He admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The Maidstone Crown Court heard his case, and on February 12, the court sentenced him.
Butt received three years and ten months in jail. He cannot drive for three years after his release.
Detective Constable Lee Berridge investigated the crash and stated Butt knew he was unfit to drive. Butt posed a risk to everyone around him. Berridge added Butt tried to run a red light. This choice changed the child’s life.
The victim is slowly recovering from awful injuries. He now adjusts to daily life and needs medical care.
