Man arrested after rooftop standoff in Ivybridge. He caused damage and traffic chaos before surrendering to police.

The police said he locked himself inside. He threatened to kill people. Western Road and the A38 slip road closed as officers talked to Hanlon for hours. Finally, he surrendered at 9:30 AM.
Hanlon went to court in Plymouth. He barricaded himself in his ex’s house before climbing onto the roof, where he threw slates and tiles to the ground.
His ex-partner escaped with their baby and dog. Hanlon had also thrown the dog around before. In addition, he damaged cars and nearby buildings, and police eventually found him hiding in the attic grinning under insulation.
The A38 slip road closure caused major traffic problems. Hanlon also damaged the house inside, breaking glass and furniture. Water leaked through roof holes, and repairs cost over £17,000.
He admitted to affray and damage last December, and the court sentenced him to over three years. The Judge said he trashed the house, caused mayhem, and scared people.
The court learned that Hanlon has a troubled past and many past convictions. One involved breaking into a home in Liskeard, where he stole a credit card and car keys and then took the family’s Skoda.
Hanlon used the stolen card in Redruth. Police found the damaged car in Truro with cash and the credit card inside. He got a suspended sentence then, which was delayed in court for a long time.
