La Burrata, a new Italian restaurant, is set to open at Darley Abbey Mills with an opening planned for spring or summer.

David Llorentes is behind the restaurant. He runs Llorentes, a Spanish spot. His partners are Karlos Galvao and Lorena Molina. The Italian diner will be in an old building.
It will be open Wednesday through Sunday. David wants something different than pizza. The restaurant will seat around 35 people. It’s in the “Old Fire Station.” The opening is a few months away.
The main space becomes the kitchen and dining area. David is excited about it. He thinks it’s the only indie Italian place in Derby. Chains are everywhere else, he noted.
He wants to revitalize the old building. Work should begin very soon. The kitchen will be open. People can watch the cooking happen. They want a unique menu; pizza is too common, they believe.
The Old Fire Station is formally listed. It’s part of the Darley Abbey Mills site. The site is a World Heritage Site, and a conservation area, too.
The building is “The Old Fire Station.” It lacks features of a fire station, though. It once housed an iron factory.
The city approved the plans in December. The council wrote a report. It mentioned the historic area. Changes will cause minimal harm to the building.
The benefits outweigh the harm. The building gets a useful business. It boosts the night life in the mills. The council worked helpfully on the project. The plan was easily approved.
