Josh Brown, from Ingleby Barwick, is now the UK’s youngest air traffic controller at Teesside Airport.

Josh joined the air traffic team in 2022. He was only 18 then, working as an assistant. He gained experience and finished his training, and now, he holds the official license.
Josh said he is very happy about this milestone and thanks everyone for their support. Being the youngest controller feels amazing, he shared, adding that his dream came true, which is pretty exciting.
The Civil Aviation Authority oversaw Josh’s tests. He spent six months in Cheltenham for training, securing his student license last year. The training was tough but he enjoyed it.
Josh loves aviation, and that passion drove him. Guiding planes and pilots is really rewarding. Teesside’s team manages diverse air traffic, working with jets and trainee pilots.
Josh said the team is close and very supportive, adding that he’s grateful for their help since day one. They all supported him during his training period.
Gayle Douglas leads Air Traffic Services. She said they are very proud of Josh because his hard work clearly paid off a lot, and he is a fantastic team member.
Qualifying is tough, but he proved he can do it! This is an amazing achievement for everyone. Gayle hopes he inspires other assistants and that they will learn from Josh.
Phil Forster manages Teesside Airport. He stated that all teams work hard there, explaining that the fire station, ground crew, and air traffic control are vital. Josh is a rising talent. Having a local be the youngest controller is great, and he wishes Josh success in his career at the airport.
