A fire broke out in Hyde early this week. It happened on Monday night, February 24th. The fire engulfed a vacant bingo hall on Clarendon Street. The building, formerly the Astoria, has been empty since 2009.

The Hyde bus station shut down due to the fire risk. The closure is expected to last all week. Demolition of the damaged building begins today to make the area safe. The bus station will stay closed until demolition finishes.

Authorities are working to secure the site now. Transport for Greater Manchester assists the effort, working with the fire service and the local council. Demolition could last until the weekend.

Buses now leave from Hyde Town Hall, located at Corporation Street and Market Street. The M67 also has a lane closure westbound, between junctions 3 and 2, due to the demolition work.

Many bus routes have changes because of the fire, including routes 201, 202, 330, 341, 342, 343, and 344. Also, the 346, 387, 816, and 871 are rerouted; check for updates online.
