Road closure and car park shutdown starts February 14 for resurfacing. Residents cite traffic and timing issues.

The roadworks start February 14 and end February 24. Huyton Hey Road will be closed then, and its adjacent car park will also be closed. The resurfacing work is the reason for the closure, between Victoria Road and the bus station.
Knowsley Council shared this update on Facebook, prompting reactions from the public, with some residents expressing unhappiness.
Comments included concerns that traffic is already problematic near Tarbock Island. One person questioned if resurfacing truly requires nine days for just 100m. Another resident pointed out the timing coincides with half term.
More work is planned for Huyton Hey Road, as Knowsley Council will start regeneration plans in 2025. In May, they will demolish the old education building, which is near McDonald’s and was vacated in 2023.
The project also includes demolishing some council buildings, specifically Huyton Municipal Building and the Computer Centre. Utility diversions are also part of the plans.
The council states these buildings use too much energy, and modernizing them would cost millions. However, Huyton Library and Nutgrove Villa will remain open.
