Humpback Whale Displays off Cornwall Coast, Photographer Captures Show
Adrian lives in Wadebridge. He saw the whale near Watergate last Thursday. He surveyed the coast from a boat. He works with the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust. They check on seals and sea life. They saw the whale two miles from shore.
Three humpbacks have been around lately. This was Adrian’s second time seeing one. He saw one earlier from the shore. Seeing it close on the water was great. Their boat follows rules to protect wildlife. They stayed far away from the whale.
He used a long lens for photos. They did not stay long and left it eating.
They found another whale near Polly Joke around lunch. They took photos to identify it. They saw the first whale later near Watergate Bay. It then did a lot of splashing. It jumped out of the water and showed its tail. It blew air and slapped its fins.
It was windy and the boat moved a lot. It was hard to hold the camera still. Adrian got some good photos anyway. The photos will help identify the whale later.
Everyone cheered when the whale jumped. They held their breath, waiting for it to appear. It jumped at least twelve times. The light was fading when they left. People on the boat were very happy.
Someone filmed another sighting near Bedruthan Steps earlier. Marie Lepage saw it then. She said it put on a great show. She first saw it before the new year. She has seen it a few times since then.
