Experts aid Humberside Police in 999 control rooms, enhancing response to domestic abuse incidents and victim support.

Five police forces started this initiative. Besides Humberside, others are Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire. Northumbria and West Midlands forces are adopting this too. The goal is to better protect abuse victims.
These experts give advice and support. They will check risk assessments and they can listen to calls. Experts help improve victim engagement. They also train call handlers about domestic abuse.
Specialists ensure victims get help and will double check decisions made by 999 call handlers. They will watch for missed chances to protect victims. The government will monitor how this approach works.
The plan is to expand this across all police forces later. This change aims to honor Raneem Oudeh and her mother. Raneem’s ex-husband murdered them in 2018 because Raneem called 999 four times that night. Sadly, police didn’t arrive in time.
