A mother and daughter from Hull will paraglide off a 1,172-meter mountain in France to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Anne Duncan is 59 and lives in Hull. Her daughter, Sophie Ombler, is 28, and they will paraglide in France. They are grateful to Help for Heroes, the charity that helped Peter Duncan, Anne’s husband and Sophie’s stepdad.
Peter was a medic in the navy for 41 years, and he served in the Falklands and Afghanistan. Peter received an MBE in 2017, an award recognizing his service.
Peter had a stroke in 2022 and is now severely disabled. Anne became his full-time carer, caring for him constantly.
Anne is turning 60 this year and wanted a challenge. Peter told her to go for it, as they want to show appreciation to the charity.
They are very grateful for the charity’s support. Peter needs care all day, every day, and the charity has been there for them.
The charity helped with physiotherapy and speech therapy. They helped with wheelchairs and equipment too, and it gave Peter mental health support, which helps him deal with trauma.
The family used respite care, which let Anne recharge her energy; she needs it for Peter’s constant care.
Anne and Sophie hope to raise £1,000, and the paraglide is on March 1st. Sophie’s coworkers are helping, and she will live-stream Anne’s launch.
Anne said they are determined to do this to support the charity’s team. The team feels like family, and the charity helped when they needed it most.
Help for Heroes supports veterans and families from any branch of the UK military. They provide support for as long as needed.
Anne and Sophie created a donation page where people can donate to their fundraising jump. They want to support the charity that helped them.
