A Hull man used false plates to avoid tax and insurance, but was caught and fined in court. His plan backfired.

Police caught him, and his plan failed. He got a £600 fine in court, which erased any money he saved. Now, driving will be hard for him.
Thomas Stevens, 27, admitted his crimes, which included using a fake plate. He also lacked insurance and a license, and this happened on August 14.
Police found the Audi at King George Dock. They knew it had fake plates that came from a van. Stevens got arrested.
Stevens only had a learner’s permit. He admitted changing the plates because he wanted to avoid tax and insurance costs. He already had six points on his license.
His lawyer said Stevens owned the van and thought police seized the car. Stevens never checked insurance costs for the Audi, and he got his permit in 2021.
The lawyer said Stevens knew this was foolish and that driving would be difficult now. Money problems fueled his actions.
The judge stated Stevens drove with fake plates. He admitted it to the police, saying he did it to skip costs. This was incredibly dumb, the judge said, because injured people would have no claim.
Stevens is jobless. He must do 150 hours of work without pay and owes £600 as a fine, He also gained eight points and cannot drive for six months.
