Hull seeks public help reporting vacant properties to combat housing shortage and neighborhood issues.

The council wants you to report problem houses and tell them about houses empty for a long time. They will check for issues like bad behavior, and if needed, they’ll secure the house. They may clean up trash and stop leaks.
Next, they will contact the owner and talk about options. Owners could sell or fix the homes. They may work with the council and the city might even buy the property. They want to get it back into use.
Empty homes cause problems as they take away needed housing. They can make neighborhoods look bad. Also, they can attract pests and can encourage bad behavior too.
The council is trying to fix this issue and are using local knowledge to help. Residents can report the empty homes to them.
For example, look at De Grey Street, where the city is fixing up some houses with the help of Works Limited. Some homes sat empty for a while and these caused problems for neighbors. Now they will make new homes that the council will rent out.
