A Huddersfield mom of five expresses outrage over rising energy bills, adding financial strain to her family.

Ofgem shared news of a price cap rise. The increase is 6.4%, adding £111 each year to an average bill. Laura Caine feels it hurts those with less money. She thinks something must change.
Laura, a 40-year-old from Huddersfield, feels shocked. “Not again,” she thought when she heard the news, and she wonders how they will pay. Their water bill also rose a lot, and she says they can’t manage it.
Laura has kids aged 10 to 19, and two of her children have disabilities. She uses Klarna for essentials, like food, already. Her husband works as a games programmer, and they get £1,000 a month in universal credit. They have even needed food banks before.
She says many face financial stress as energy and food costs keep rising fast. To help with heating costs, they have a plan: she and Martin, 42, will use hot water bottles, and they will give kids thick blankets.
Laura feels sad about what this means, and she thinks it will mean more homeless people. There will be more hungry kids because of it. She finds it disgusting that companies’ profits will grow soon, she believes. She repeats that the poor pay more, and she thinks something must be done.
She feels “Ripped-Off Britain” better describes the UK. She thinks people get cheated on everything.
