Upperhead Row car park gets upgrades by February. Expect fewer spaces, widened bays & more disabled parking after 2026 completion.

The project includes structure fixes, a new fire system, and better CCTV. New fire doors, upgraded entrance ramps, and fixed exit ramps are planned. New lights will go in, and ramp heating will fight snow and ice.
The upgrades happen in stages, with some parking levels closing partly. Forty to 150 fewer spots will be available during each phase. Signs will guide the traffic.
After the work, 71 fewer spots will exist. However, parking bays will widen for bigger cars, and more disabled spaces will be available, rising from 11 to 22 spots.
Other long-term car parks are nearby, such as the Springwood and Cambridge Road lots. These are useful during and after the project.
The council invests in safer parking spots there and wants to improve the Upperhead Row area. Kirklees Council works with WYCA on this project.
Huddersfield Bus Station has its own plans involving big changes to the station. Network Rail upgrades the train station too. This is part of a bigger project named TRU. The Upperhead Row car park should finish by spring 2026.
