City approves 56-bed hotel plan for former Last Plantagenet pub after initial councillor concerns were addressed.

They planned student flats there in 2021. These were small studio apartments, each with a bedroom, living area, and kitchen. The building has five floors.
Now, someone wants to make it a hotel instead. They asked the city council back in October, proposing a 56-bed hotel.
Well, the planners said yes to the hotel idea. The ground floor is still empty; part of it will be the hotel reception.
A councilor, Patrick Kitterick, had concerns. He thought it might house vulnerable adults and worried about the small room sizes.
Planners said stays would be limited to 60 days. This eased Kitterick’s worries, so he dropped his objection, and the planners then approved it.
The approval happened because Kitterick changed his mind. They had already okayed a hotel there before, but these earlier plans never actually happened.
The company, Friends Tavern Leicester, made the new request. They want couples for weekend trips, saying it’s for short self-catered stays.
There will also be a reception area, intended as a “multi-functional” spot. Guests can use this space for small gatherings. They won’t offer food or drinks, as plenty of restaurants and bars are nearby.
