New homes approved despite safety concerns. The builder revised plans due to worries about road proximity and site suitability.

Cademan Developments wanted nine self-build houses on Loughborough Road in Whitwick. People worried about too many houses in that spot and they thought the houses were too close to Swannymote Road.
Whitwick Parish Council said nine houses would be unsafe, putting walkers, drivers, and homeowners at risk. Cademan disagreed when they proposed it last January but reduced it to five houses after the backlash.
They want to build five homes on the one and a half acre site. Mature trees surround the building location. This area is outside building limits, according to the local council.
The council didn’t have full house designs yet, as the plans are still at an early stage. However, the council approved the project this week because officials stated there is a self-build home shortage locally and the government needs more of these types of houses.
Officials point out these homes help meet that government agenda, adding to the supply of self-build property. The council struggles to provide enough self-build plots, and in general, the plans are OK from a technical side, though it builds outside of defined development limits.
Approval will require a Section 106 order. Cademan will likely pay to plant more local trees. Home design plans come later in new applications.
