An old pub will become housing. It got approval from the council. The Angel Inn, near Coalville, closed in 2022 and has been empty since then.

The council approved the conversion. The pub on The Moor will become a home, and two new houses will also be built there. The owners said the pub was not making money, and deals to save it failed before.

The pub is falling apart now. Its roof, walls, and windows are damaged, making the site look bad and unattractive. It is now boarded up for safety.

The council said the plan is suitable and fits the rural area well. The plan does not harm the countryside, and five other pubs are nearby.

The Angel Inn was important to the village. But it wasn’t needed anymore because other pubs serve the community now anyway. The Angel Inn is not making money, and other ideas for its use failed.

The plan adds two new homes that will go next to the old pub building. Some people had issues with the plan, however; the Parish Council thought it was too big and would not match the other homes.

Residents signed a letter objecting, saying it helps nobody and hurts nature. Another person worried about more house building. Others liked the plan though, with one person calling the pub ugly and stating the new houses look nice.

The plan has some rules attached. Work must start in three years, and bins and building designs must be approved. Parking spaces must be ready before people move in.

The new homes have special names. The old pub is now The Old Angel Inn, and the new homes are Angel Cottage and Angel House. One home will have four bedrooms, and the other will have five.
