The council initially rejected the housing plan, citing poor transport and potential countryside damage. White House Farm is Grade-II listed and could have been affected. Over 400 people initially objected to the project.
However, a planning inspector overturned the council’s decision and granted permission for the homes. The new estate includes various types of houses, such as starter homes and elderly housing, with a games area also planned.
The inspector believes it’s a suitable location for construction, as Loggerheads village offers needed services that are easily reachable. While people may drive to bigger towns, public transport provides an alternative.
The £35 million project will support local jobs, both directly and indirectly. New residents will contribute to the local economy, and the plan will also aid local bus services. Off-site highway improvements are also planned.
Funds will be allocated for healthcare and Madeley High School, supporting secondary education. Shropshire Homes must now submit detailed plans. Some local residents are hoping to collaborate with the developer.
A village spokesman stated that action is still possible, as detailed plans can be influenced to protect the lane and the village.
