Hey, guess what’s happening in Loughborough? Someone wants to change houses into shared living spaces. They’re called HMOs (houses of multiple occupation). Richard Ward wants to convert two houses on Oxford Street. He asked Charnwood Borough Council for permission.

One house, number 2, would have four bedrooms. There’s one downstairs and three upstairs. It would also have a shared kitchen and living room. A bathroom would be added, too. We don’t know the plan for number 4 yet.

Toplets Student Accommodation sent in the plans. They represent Mr. Ward. Toplets also wanted to build two student buildings nearby. This would add eleven rooms on Ashby Road. Both streets are in a special area, the Ashby Road conservation area.

Someone complained about the Ashby Road plans. They think there are too many students already and said many HMOs affect the area. They talked about noise and bad behavior. Also, they mentioned trash and rats are a problem. No decision yet on the Oxford Street plans.
