Part of The Old Dog Inn, closed since 2018, will be restored and transformed into a modern restaurant.

The pub closed way back in 2018 and stood empty. They had a plan to make it a restaurant and bedsits upstairs. That plan was withdrawn about two years ago. They still need to fix a lot of urgent stuff.
The owner still wants a restaurant and apartments. But the big changes are on hold, and they will submit a new plan later. For now, they focus on urgent repairs, rebuilding the back, and replacing the roof.
They are also fixing the front of the building. Most of the windows need replacement too. Parts of the building are in bad shape, and the back partly collapsed, so it needs immediate work, they said.
A fire nearby caused more damage last year. Luckily, The Old Dog Inn was safe from a worse fate. Planners said these changes will cause minor harm, but protecting the historic building matters more to them. The repairs will help the building, and future generations should enjoy it too, they said.
They will keep the original entrance and repaint it with special paints. They will fix the colored renders as well. The timber in the roof will also be repaired using old carpentry methods.
They will add steel for support, when needed. The building has a long history, really. An inn stood there in 1715, maybe earlier. Methodist meetings happened there long ago, and the “Dog Inn” name is even older, as it was once at a different place.
