McDonald’s opened in Crediton, marking the town’s first location. Locals and visitors have frequented it since. The restaurant includes updated technology and strives for sustainability.

The new restaurant is on Joseph Locke Way, having opened last Wednesday, February 26. David Shawyer invested in the location, which operates 24/7. Customers can dine in or opt for take away, with drive-thru and click and serve options available.

The restaurant has 76 seats and created over 90 local jobs. Table service is offered, and self-ordering kiosks are available. A patio with seating and smart digital menu boards at the drive-thru have been added. The redesign serves people faster overall.

David now owns ten Devon McDonald’s locations and is happy about the Crediton opening. He looks forward to welcoming new employees. The company invests in opportunities and promotes flexibility and equality.

Aligning with McDonald’s future plans, the restaurant features a new layout with the latest tech. They aim for a better experience for customers and want net zero emissions by 2030. The restaurant reflects sustainable building design choices.

Solar panels help generate power, and recycled materials were used in construction, including coffee grounds. New trials are underway at the Crediton site. Air windows retain heat inside, reducing energy use, while kerb stones, made from recycled plastic, aid drainage.

A visitor reviewed their experience on the second day of operation. She found the atmosphere lovely and welcoming, noting good natural light for reading. She believed the outdoor seating will be great for sunny days, plus the food was fast and hot, and the staff were lovely.

She noticed a variety of people enjoying the new place, including parents, students, and tradesmen. Healthy options are available, and a menu called ‘meals under 400 calories’ includes items like crispy chicken salads.

The opening has divided local opinion. Concerns exist over business impacts and possible increased local traffic. Some see it as boosting the economy. Concerns also exist about littering.
