Hey, something happened at a school in North Wales. There was a fire in a building in Conwy county. It sounds like someone might have started it on purpose.

The fire service responded to the incident, which occurred on Faenol Avenue around 4:22 PM. Crews came from Abergele, Colwyn Bay, and Rhyl to tackle the blaze. The fire was located on the top floor of a two-story outbuilding.

Another crew from Bangor arrived equipped with an aerial ladder. The building was described as “commercial.” Thankfully, nobody sustained any injuries in the fire incident.

Matt Wildsmith, the headteacher of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, expressed his gratitude. He thanked the nearby community for their quick response in alerting everyone to the fire. He also extended his thanks to the firefighters and police for their swift action.

Firefighters deployed four hosereel jets and utilized a thermal imaging camera. They successfully extinguished the fire by 7:11 PM, bringing the incident to a close after approximately three hours. The fire resulted in significant damage to the upstairs room.

Officials suspect the fire was intentionally set, with arson being the likely cause. The fire service shares the belief that someone deliberately started the blaze.

Matt Wildsmith communicated the incident on the school’s Dinorben site in a message. He expressed relief that everyone worked together to secure the site effectively, ensuring no one was harmed. He stated they are currently unsure about the full extent of the damage and the definitive cause of the fire.

He urged people to refrain from speculating about the fire’s origin until more information is available. He assured parents that further updates will be provided later. The main school building remained unaffected, therefore school will open as usual on Monday.

The school management hopes the Dinorben site will also be operational soon. Some parents will be contacted directly should a closure become necessary. Wildsmith showed appreciation for those who raised the alarm as well as quick help from the police and fire crews. He ended with thanks in Welsh.
