Hayes Man Admits Stabbing Stepdad to Death After Police Stand-off

A man confessed to killing his stepdad in Hayes. Adejuwon Oyekan, age 32, lived on Melina Close. He admitted manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. This occurred at the Old Bailey court on February 24.

Police went to Melina Close early on July 11, 2023. They got reports Oyekan stabbed Jason Thompson, age 54. Officers found Oyekan still had the knife; it was the weapon he used to kill Jason.

First responders entered Jason’s house and tried using tasers to disarm Oyekan. The tasers did not work, so armed police then entered and arrested Oyekan at the address. Sadly, Jason died there despite emergency services’ attempts to help him.

Oyekan was charged with murder on that same day. He will receive his sentence on April 10.

Police said their thoughts are with Jason’s family now. A detective thanked the officers who first arrived and bravely faced an armed, aggressive suspect. The officers used quick thinking and available tools to control Oyekan, ensuring he went into custody right away and could not threaten others.
