A man from Hartlepool died in a car crash. The inquest provided details about the accident. Conor Ellis Holland, aged 24, lost control of his car on the A689 near the Travellers Rest Pub. The blue Audi S3 he drove hit some railings on November 17, 2023.

The crash caused severe injuries to Conor’s neck, including three fractures in his cervical spine. He also sustained many broken ribs and chest bleeding. A pathologist, Dr. Jennifer Bolton, confirmed that the neck injuries caused death. This was consistent with injuries from a car accident.

Paul Appleton, the assistant coroner, discussed toxicology tests that found no signs of drugs or alcohol. PC Jason Coverdale from Durham Constabulary testified that Conor lost control on a left-hand bend. The car then collided with roadside objects, and no other vehicles were involved.

Assistant coroner Appleton stated that Conor sped before the crash, likely exceeding the speed limit. He concluded the death resulted from a car accident. Emergency crews established a cordon at the site around 10:15 pm.

Police initially arrested a 22-year-old man driving a blue VW Golf, suspecting him of causing death by dangerous driving. However, police later released him without charges. Following the accident, people left flowers by the road at the crash site to honor Conor.
