The A493 coastal road needs safety work. It connects Barmouth and Tywyn. A section between Friog and Llwyngwril requires better barriers.

Expect overnight road closures for five weeks in February, March, April, and May. The road shuts 8 PM to 6 AM on those dates. Expect daytime traffic lights, and the detour is a long route through Dolgellau and Abergynolwyn.

Gwynedd Council shared the closure dates and wants drivers to plan trips. Preparation starts February 10, 2025, and main work begins February 17, 2025. The closures ensure safety during work and the road reopens during the day with lights, though occasional delays are possible.

The council knows the detour is extensive, and they are minimizing the number of closure nights. The plan includes closures in late February 2025, early and late March 2025, early April, and late April/early May 2025. Expect no lights during Easter.

Some dates might change; signs will show closure information. The council apologized for any trouble caused, and appreciates everyone’s cooperation as they are working to improve road safety.
