That building sat empty for two decades. It’s on Portsmouth Road and Bury Street. Flats will have communal areas. These include a gym and co-working spaces. There’s also a coffee bar.
The development has four buildings. These are four to six stories tall. They will offer discounted rent on 67 apartments. These are for key public service workers. Planning papers show it targets millennials. Rent will start at £1,250 monthly. This includes utilities, Wi-Fi, and concierge. The location puts residents near High Street and the train.
Studios are up to 30 square meters. All bills are included in the rent. Habito Co-Living will run social events. These events include cooking classes and wellness sessions. Host is the lead operator. They said they aim to open this summer. The original opening was due in May 2025, but faced delays.
Guildford Council approved the plans in 2022. They stated it helps with demand for smaller rentals. The development encourages “co-living.” It has many communal on-site areas. Partners Group launched the Guildford Plaza project. They partner with Host. Host is a large student accommodation provider.
CField Construction work as the main contractors. CField Construction took over in October 2023. Previous contractors went into administration. That paused construction. By September 2024, they held a topping out ceremony. This marked the building structure’s full completion. Coffey Architects designed the project. Ruff Architects worked during later stages. The Plaza is aiming for an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating. This measures the building’s sustainability.
