The George Abbot pub in Guildford will close February 24th for a four-week, six-figure makeover. Reopening is aimed for mid-March.

The pub will get a big update inside and out, costing them a good chunk of change. Think new signs and better lighting; they’re also fixing up the bathrooms, too. It sounds like a complete refresh is coming!
Lots of people like this pub. Sports fans enjoy all the TVs they have. Reviews often mention helpful staff, and the food choices get good comments too. It’s truly a popular spot.
The general manager, Jay Romano, shared the news. He said they’re investing a lot in the pub and is excited to show off changes in March. They welcome everyone back soon after upgrades.
Greene King owns this pub. It had work done back in 2014. The River Wey flooded, forcing it to close for two months then. Before the 90s, it was The Greyhound bar, mainly serving a gay clientele then.
The reopening is planned for March 14th, but the manager suggests “mid-March” is their target. So, the exact date could shift a bit; they want it perfect when ready.
