Sushi restaurant Unagi in Greater Manchester closes after a short six months due to licensing issues.

The restaurant was in Salford Quays, next to Quayside MediaCityUK and near The Lowry theatre. It opened in August last year and was called the biggest sushi bar in the north.
The large restaurant seated 225 people and featured a Tokyo 7 cocktail bar and an outdoor terrace. A sushi bar stood in the center, where diners watched chefs prepare food.
Unagi began as a food truck in Altrincham, starting two weeks before lockdown. Besides Altrincham, Unagi has other locations in Wilmslow, Cheetham Hill, and Didsbury.
David and Jo Vanderhook own the restaurants and also run other restaurants like the Con Club and the George Charles. Unagi shared the closure on Instagram, stating that other Unagi restaurants remain open with new locations planned.
The announcement mentioned a tough decision, citing a desire to focus on other locations in Altrincham and elsewhere. New Manchester locations are expected to open later.
Unagi’s owners plan to move their team to other Unagi locations and thanked everyone for their hard work.
Customers expressed disappointment, with Dock10 studios calling it a “big loss” and another person feeling “gutted.” Yet, others still love Unagi restaurants and were happy other locations remain open.
