Residents in Govan, Glasgow, are angry about dumped shopping trolleys adding to litter. This threatens the area’s renewal.

Esme Clark loves Govan’s changes, but fly-tipping and trolleys worry her greatly. They might harm the progress they made, she fears. Fly-tipping was reported before in Govan, and residents worry about vermin because of this.
Clark says trolleys are a big issue near Craigton Road. That is why she contacted Asda for help. Govan is not clean enough, she says. The area does not look good, according to Esme.
New flats are being built in Govan now, but the dirty streets create a bad impression. Esme feels sad about fly-tipping and trolleys. Asda trolleys are all over Govan’s streets, and she said they are always a problem, always there.
People use them like mobile bins, she observed, so workers must remove the trash. Esme sees the same trolleys in same spots, and workers don’t seem to bring them back, she thinks.
Govan has a new bridge and housing, she points out, and more people shop there now, which is good. They don’t want selfishness to ruin it – many have worked hard to improve Govan.
Zubir Ahmed is MP for Glasgow South West. He wrote Asda about this trolley issue, mentioning many abandoned trolleys nearby. Restore the weekly collection service, he asked.
Abandoned trolleys look bad, Ahmed stated. These trolleys are also a safety risk. Trolleys block paths and cause accidents, especially affecting the elderly and children.
Asda says their trolleys need coins. They hired Collex to pick up stray trolleys. Customers should report misplaced trolleys, call 0800 1860 600 or email request@collextrolley.com. Use the Collex App, if you spot one to report.
