Local golf course Dalmuir faces closure due to council cuts; petition launched to save it second time.

Dalmuir golfers are upset. The council may stop funding the course to save money. This made some members feel ‘sickened’.
Paul McGinley and Martin Hardie support the course. They signed a petition started by Gerry Smith on Change.org.
The council will consider options: they might increase fees, reduce the course size, or close it. Subsidizing it costs £100,000 yearly. Membership numbers have gone down.
The council will decide on March 5. Members might pay £805 if it stays open. Currently, 180+ members pay up to £300.
Last year’s petition got over 7,500 signatures. John McGinn and Justin Rose also signed it.
Mr. Smith feels betrayed, and says the council isn’t managing it well, nor attempting to earn income.
The council removed facilities: the cafe, bowling, and tennis courts are gone. The course closure discussion comes up yearly.
A council spokesperson explained they are trying to close a budget gap. They will make the decision on March 5.
