A sinkhole in Godstone, Surrey, led to the evacuation of 30 homes. Authorities are responding to ensure resident safety.

The Surrey County Council said it was a major incident, which happened on Tuesday. People need to stay away for now, as SES Water is working on fixing the big hole.
A local leader, Catherine Sayer, spoke about it. She said some families found their own places to stay, while others asked for help finding somewhere safe, and that people should talk to their insurance companies.
Right now, they are helping some families find places to live temporarily. The Surrey Local Resilience Forum is in charge, and Surrey County Council leads the response.
One couple, Nicola and Damian Styles, live on Godstone High Street. They went back home to get some things, then ultimately decided to stay there, which sounds pretty risky, right?
Damian Styles mentioned the unknown, saying they do not know what to expect since the sinkhole is still growing. He also said officials are doing their best to help.
A sinkhole expert, Professor Peter Styles, issued a warning, thinking more damage could be hiding beneath the road. He believes other sinkholes might form nearby, telling SurreyLive about this risk.
